Healthy and Creative: Recent Design for Daikin U.S. New York Office

As a founding member of Mirai Work Space Alliance, we have recently designed a new office space for Daikin U.S. Corporation in New York. This renovation project aimed to enhance the company’s brand image and provide a healthy and creative environment to its employees by applying the idea of “Space for Well-being“.

Brand image and health

Daikin is a leading provider of advanced air conditioning solutions. Its products place emphasis on “comfort” which is an important part of human health. So, for Daikin, having a healthy office not only means a better working environment but also elevates their brand image.

A curved reception “island” welcomes you when entering the office.
Its playful shape with wavy glass represents the image of airflow and nudges people to think and move in creative ways. The plants visually make you feel relaxing and provide clean air.

Importance of having both open and not-so-open space

Without high partitions, people talk to people for better creativity. Sunlight brights up space. The new furniture; sit-stand desks and ergonomic chairs, allows people to keep good posture and move their bodies frequently. Remember that good posture will make you happier?

You also need some privacy and quietness to focus on certain types of tasks and to calm your mind. In this project, we provided options of places so that people can choose the right amount of openness/closedness. One example is an alcove (see the photo below).

Space matters

At PED and MIRAI, we believe that space matters for both business and people who work there. Healthy and creative space for Daikin is one of our attempts to tell the world that space is important! Please keep watching how we develop ourselves. (Originally published on https://www.PEDarch.com on December 2019)
